I bought one of those boroscope thingies off of Amazon. I have no clue how bad these are. Help!
The photos aren’t the highest quality, but if anyone can infer anything, it would be helpful.

Seems like there are some clean explosions going on. Don’t know if that is just buildup on the edge of the piston. Comparing with the corresponding spark plug should give you a better idea of what is going on if anything .

Plugs are completely dry and these is no sign of burning.
I was worried about what looked like pitting to me on pistons 1 and 3.

Likely just poor casting from the factory.

I see what you mean but really don’t know what it’s supposed to look like. Could just be p itting in some carbon buildup?

Could be I suppose.

Hmm. Thanks!

I’m not an expert but...
I doubt quality of casting varies so abruptly between four pistons, but it doesn’t look a lot like carbon either?
Get one of those carbon-buildup cleaner thingamajig that goes mixed with your petrol and check again in a week i f something has changed.
But if the car is running OK I don’t see an issue, granted, maybe you’re running rich, so check the relevant sensors, and also do a leak test if necesary.

Looks similar to mine when I did that so I wouldn't worry. I think that's just a bit of carbon build up and maybe some corrosion from condensation from short drives. I'm not an expert. But you can still see cross hatching on the cylinder walls in some of those pics so I think you're in good shape.

It honestly looks like light damage from detonation from low quality fuel. Usually see that from people that run 87 in a car that requires 91. Piston 3 looks like it may have had moisture sitting in it for some time...

Thanks!
I was doing short driven when I was at school earlier this year when it was -10 to 0 F outside. That may explain the moisture.

Car is running well, no issues.
I’m in the process of putting a smaller SC pulley, lets see how the car takes to that.
Thanks for you input :)

I agree with the observation that it might be light detonation. That is what it looks like to me....

Excess buildup could be an issue, specially if its an interference motor
![]() 12/22/2018 at 15:19 |

Its not an interference motor. Quite low compression too, 8.3 i think
![]() 12/22/2018 at 15:59 |

Such low compression is just asking for more boost . its gonna end up great!
